The Satellite Beach Police Department, working in cooperation with the National Shooting Sports Foundation, will provide city residents, or gun owners with children in Satellite Beach schools, free gun locks and gun safety literature as part of Project ChildSafe.

Project ChildSafe is a nationwide program whose purpose is to promote safe firearms handling and storage practices among all firearms owners through the distribution of key safety education pamphlets and free gun locking devices.  The program is supported by the United States Department of Justice.

The Satellite Beach Police Department has obtained 200 gun safety kits through Project ChildSafe.  These kits will be made available to any city resident or gun owners with children attending Satellite Beach schools, no questions asked and free of charge.

We encourage all gun owners to store weapons in a location that is inaccessible to children, regardless of age, with ammunition stored seperately.  Our School Resource Officers will continue to educate the children in our community on gun safety topics.  Anyone interested in receiving a free kit can stop by the lobby of the Satellite Beach Police Department any time.
